School Meals
Our School Meals are currently cooked of site at Meldreth School by HCL. The food is transported to school in thermal boxes and temperatures are taken when the food arrives to ensure it is compliant with food health and safety standards. This may change at some point back to our onsite Kitchen and if and when that does we will notify parents of the change.
We operate a canteen type service from 12 -1pm. The children are called in from the rear playground in their classes to either line up for their hot lunch or collect their packed lunch from the trolley. Once the line has gone down the next class will be called in. This continues till all children have eaten.
There are four options for lunch each day, a meat option, vegetarian option, sandwich or a jacket potato. One day a week is meat free.

Free School Meals
Free School Meals are available for families who are in receipt of a qualifying benefit. The County Council asks all families who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) to put in an application because even if you do not want the free meal your school will get valuable additional funding, called the Pupil Premium.
Who is eligible for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium?
All children who are at school; and were under 19 at the start of the academic year; and are
claiming or have parents who are claiming:

- Income support; or
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance; or
- Income Related Employment and Support Allowance (this benefit was introduced from 27 October 2008); or
- Child Tax Credit, but who are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and whose annual income (as assessed by HM Revenue & Customs) does not exceed £16,190; or
- Support under part VI of the Immigration & asylum Act 1999; or
- Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
Do I need to apply if my children are in EYFS/KS1 and automatically get Universal Infant Free School Meals?
If you are eligible for means-tested Free School Meals but have children in Early Years or Key Stage 1 the school will benefit if you make an application even though your children will already be receiving a free meal. Therefore, we would ask that all eligible families apply as soon as possible after their children begin school.

School Milk
Milk is provided for children in Reception until they turn 5. Once they turn 5 parents can opt in to order milk for their children for the rest of their primary school years.
